Nidagravel Maximum Slope for Vehicles

Gravel on slopes...a Nidagravel gradient guideline:

Using a decorative gravel surface for a sloping path, driveway or any other sloping gravel surface application can be problematic. The main three problems that arise when gravel has been laid in the traditional way on a slope (i.e. a surface dressing laid directly on tip of the sub-base material) are as follows:

1. Gravel Migration
The gravel migrates towards the bottom part of the slope after a period of use, especially with driveways or slopes with vehicular traffic. The gravel that has migrated then becomes harder to drive or walk over as it becomes deeper.  This gravel migration can be made worse by the type of gravel used. A rounded river or pea gravel is likely to migrate further than an angular gravel in these traditional installations.

2. Loss of Surface Gravel Dressing
Gravel migration results in loss of gravel, which exposes the sub-base material. In order to keep the surface looking as it should, more gravel needs to be added and spread of the surface and problem starts again. This becomes a long term maintenance issue that will keep repeating itself.

3. Ruts and Potholes
The combination of gravel migration, loss of gravel and exposure of the sub-base material can lead to ruts and potholes developing in the gravel surface.

The solution...Nidagravel Gravel Stabilization Panels

Nidagravel gravel stabilization panels are laid over the sub-base and cut to fit the required area. The honeycomb structure of the panels holds the gravel in place permanently in honeycomb cells. This prevents gravel migrating, prevents loss of gravel and prevents ruts and potholes from developing.

Nidagravel honeycomb panels provide a stable gravel surface that is firm underfoot, making the gravel surface easy to walk across, a surface that is wheelchair friendly and easy to push a stroller or to bike on. Nidagravel enables a high quality, long lasting gravel surface to be created that is almost maintenance free.

Nidagravel recommends a maximum gradient at 15%.

On all gradients up to 15% the weight of the gravel fill holds the panels in place and prevents longitudinal movement and no additional form of mechanical fixing is required. There will be no movement of the gravel within the honeycomb cells with minimal surface migration.
